Aside from providing livelihood to people in its barangay, these brands make it a point to help other social enterprises and indigent communities.
For years, John Paul Duque worked as a freelancer shifting from one job to another from different industries. He took on different jobs, and this unpredictable arrangement would often require him to spend days, if not an entire month, away from his family. On some months, he would not have a source of income. He finally settled in 2017 when he got a job at Wonderful World of Wellness, the maker of natural soap brand Jabon Jabon and hair care brand Sibol.
While he did not have any prior experience making soaps, WOWOW saw his potential and equipped him with intensive training. Now, he is one of the company’s expert soap artisans.
“Natutunan ko ang soap-making na pwede kong ipagmalaki dahil matagal ko rin itong inaral. Malaki rin ang pagpapasalamat ko dahil may permanente na akong trabaho, nakapag-pundar ako kahit papaano at araw-araw ko nang nakakasama ang pamilya ko,” Paul says.
WOWOW offers livelihood opportunities not just to Paul and its other regular employees, but also to its partner communities. During their peak seasons which come during summer and Christmas breaks, WOWOW also gives livelihood opportunities to the housewives in their barangay in Tagaytay. WOWOW also actively organizes outreach activities and medical missions in their barangay and other indigent communities. With their advocacy to promote all-natural products, Jabon Jabon and Sibol also source their indigenous extracts and raw materials from local communities in Pampanga and Laguna. This allows them to engage with farmers and cooperatives.
WOWOW’s foray into toll manufacturing also allows it to work with other brands including community and social enterprises. Its flexible arrangements make it easier for its partners to sustain their business.
“WOWOW co-creates and innovates with its clients, and is in a class of its own in providing clients with expert product development, technical, marketing and branding support every step of the way,” says Ricky Lopez, Founding President of WOWOW.
It will also soon export personal wellness products to Europe and the Middle East. Ricky considers this a victory not just for their company, but for the Filipino artisan and natural resources.
